“Job step number has been used in the past” error message

“Job step number has been used in the past” error message

Entire error message: “This job step number has been used in the past for a different step in this job.  Step numbers cannot be reused within a job, because doing so would make payroll history reports misleading.  Please choose a new job step number.”

Solution

This error means the job step number for this job has already been used. Even when a job step has been closed, the history remains. 

User must use a different number.
