In May 2025, Vertex had the opportunity to attend the annual MOHR Conference in Minnesota, an event dedicated to supporting and celebrating the DSPand IDD community and organizations that serve individuals with disabilities across the state.
This conference stands out each year as a gathering of not just executives and DSP supervisors, but also field-level DSPs who come to learn, grow, and connect with others in the industry. For Vertex, MOHR has become a meaningful event that we attend every year, not just for showcasing our case management solutions, but for showing up in support of our growing customer base in Minnesota, many of whom turned to us after software stability issues with other providers.
Why Vertex Attended
At MOHR 2025, we continued our mission of empowering providers with reliable, accessible solutions. Our presence helped introduce attendees to alternatives to the systems they may currently be using. Beyond that, attending MOHR gave us a chance to reconnect with current customers, listen to their evolving needs, and stay informed on the critical issues impacting providers across the state. This is a conference we look forward to attending each year due to our impact in Minnesota, relationships we’ve built in the past and opportunities to grow.
Key Takeaways from the Event
The Future of 14C in Minnesota
Minnesota continues its push toward phasing out 14C certificates, but many organizations are advocating for modified versions or alternatives that allow people to continue working meaningfully. It’s a dynamic conversation involving providers, families, and legislators.
Focus on Community and Residential Programs
A significant portion of the conference centered around enhancing residential services and community-based employment, aligning with the priorities of Minnesota’s Department of Labor and Department of Human Services.
The Importance of Legislative Collaboration
Several sessions emphasized ongoing collaboration with lawmakers to shape policies that support both service providers and individuals receiving services. It’s clear that real change requires everyone at the table.
Notable Conference Speakers
The event closed on a high note with Kathy Parry, whose keynote inspired attendees to recharge and recognize the incredible value of the work being done. Her focus on team energy and gratitude resonated with many in the room.
Karen Lee presented on Community Life Engagement, with an emphasis on transitioning away from 14C and production-based models. However, the session left many attendees with concerns, particularly those who see value in maintaining diverse work options for the people they serve.
Who We Connected With
We had the chance to meet with representatives from our current customers, including leadership teams who shared feedback and future needs. We also connected with the CEO of ProAct, gaining valuable insights into the organization’s direction and priorities as the Minnesota landscape continues to evolve.
A Creative Touch: Arts & Crafts by Individuals with Disabilities
One of the highlights of the event was the vibrant showcase of arts and crafts created by individuals with disabilities. These booths didn’t just brighten the exhibit hall, they offered a powerful reminder of the creativity, capability, and entrepreneurial spirit of the people we all aim to support.
Vertex Continues to Grow In Minnesota
We’re grateful for the opportunity to attend MOHR 2025 and look forward to continuing to support providers across Minnesota with solutions that help staff work more efficiently, confidently, and independently. Our team will also attend the MOHR Executive Conference sessions in August which we are looking forward to.
